Sexual Positions for Baby Making

When it comes to baby making, many people argue that the sexual position is everything. The truth is, timing is everything. If a woman is meant to get pregnant at the right time, then she will regardless of her sexual position. Although there are no scientific studies based around this topic, many experts say there are some positions that are better than others.

Best Positions for Baby Making

Even though many experts believe sexual positions have nothing to do with conception, many of these experts believe there are certain positions that allow for deeper penetration which doesn’t hurt the baby making process. These positions include:

Missionary Position – The missionary position is when the woman is lying flat on her back with the man on top. Many experienced people say this is the best position for baby making due to the degree of penetration and the position of the woman that allows the sperm to be deposited at the cervical opening.

From Behind – While facing away from the male, a woman kneels before the man. Penetration from behind is said to allow men to enter deeper and closer to the cervix. If he ejaculates in this position, chances are he’ll deposit the sperm at the cervical opening.

Spooning - This position requires a man and woman spooning together, lying side-by-side with the man behind the woman. Again, deep penetration allowed in this position, allows the sperm to reach the cervical opening quicker.

Worst Positions for Baby Making

There are some sexual positions that are not so good for baby making. The main reason is gravity, and the sperm working against it. These next couple of positions are said to be less reliable when trying to conceive, they include:

Standing or Sitting – Sexual intercourse while standing or sitting doesn’t allow the penis to penetrate deeply. The closer the sperm is deposited at the opening of the vagina, the less likely it will survive long enough to travel to the uterus, especially when gravity is pulling it down.

Woman on Top - Regardless if a woman is sitting, lying or turned backwards, if she’s in any way upright, chances are conception will not occur. Like with standing and sitting, gravity is working against sperm, while the penis is unable to penetrate deeply.

Sexual Position Myths

The most common myth about sexual positions for baby making is that a couple needs to have sex all the time. The truth is men need a ‘recharge’ period to build up their sperm count. Experts say that having sex every other day during the ovulation period gives men a fresh batch each time he ejaculates. Healthy, fresh sperm have a longer life span and therefore chances are increased when the sperm is newly made.

Another common myth is related to a woman’s orgasm while trying to make a baby. There have not been many studies on this topic, which allows for open interpretation. Some expert’s believe orgasms help a woman’s cervix move lower, allowing sperm easier access, while other experts believe a woman’s orgasm has no positive or negative effect on conceiving.

Baby Making Tips

There are some things you can do immediately following sex to increase your chances of getting pregnant. Many experts say that if you continue to lie on your back after intercourse (at least 5-10 minutes) the sperm have a better chance of ‘swimming upstream’. Some experts also agree that if a woman places a pillow under her hips and keeps her legs raised, then gravity is working with the sperm, allowing them to easily swim upstream.

Another reminder that woman need to remember is they shouldn’t douche after sex, especially if their trying to conceive. Douching changes the pH balance of the vagina and sperm needs the alkaline-acid levels to be more or less balanced to live. Douching also flushes out the cervical fluid that helps the sperm travel to the uterus.
